Offline Speech to Text (OSTT)

Offline Speech to Text turns speech into text on your Android phone. After downloading or importing a speech model, recognition works without a network connection or account. Audio is processed on the device.

Use the built-in voice keyboard to dictate into text fields. You can also select the app as your speech recognition provider in keyboards and apps that support Android's provider interface. Some keyboards use their own service and do not offer this choice.

Share an audio file with the app to transcribe a recording. Files decode in blocks to limit audio-buffer memory. Live subtitles can transcribe audio from other apps when Android allows audio capture.

Add names and specialist terms to your dictionary, save personal corrections and choose the pause before automatic stopping. Transcript recovery helps preserve text when an editor changes or closes. Password fields are protected from automatic insertion.

The app download does not bundle a speech model. Setup offers verified model downloads with recommendations based on your language, storage and phone. Choose a model and tap Download and install. Downloaded models remain in private app storage through ordinary updates. Compatible transcribe.cpp GGUF models can also be imported from local storage.

The app is free and open source under the MIT License, with a native Android interface, a Rust core and the transcribe.cpp speech engine.

Detailed troubleshooting is off by default. Enable it for one hour, 24 hours or until manually disabled. Logs stay private and bounded; exporting them requires your action.
